JOBS &ECONOMIC RECOVERY

Right now we face unprecedented challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses are struggling and many jobs have been lost due to the shut down from the pandemic. Lauren believes that the men and women who work in our city are the drivers of our economy. Therefore, it is the role of local government to support small business owners who provide jobs in our city during these difficult times, as well as the workers who have been impacted by the downturn.

One thing that has become apparent as a result of this crisis is that many families in the city and in the region were already facing challenges. From parental leave to childcare and from healthcare to housing, too many families were already struggling.

Lauren believes this is the time for government to help create new, good-paying jobs to give Irvine's families and workforce further opportunity to thrive. This starts with a serious response to deal with the pandemic. City officials must do everything they can to make sure that the health and welfare of our work force is protected with adequate PPE and policies in place to support all families. We also must make sure that vulnerable Irvine families facing the pandemic have a safety net.

Lauren will also continue to support innovation that drives our Irvine businesses into the future. She will work to incentivize the use of clean energy and community-supporting workforce policies that encourage local and veteran hiring. One place we can start is at the Orange County Great Park, with the building of a Veterans Cemetery at the ARDA site as well as a cultural terrace for our residents to enjoy.

Lauren believes that business and government work best as partners, with the best interest of our residents at the forefront of everything we do.
